Random tuesday thoughts

warming, below is random...

So I am fully into Lent, and its hard. So the white flour concept..yea, not so good. I am just sticking with the no sweets thing.... That is hard enough in iteslf. Especially since I am smack dab in the middle of a cold. I honestly feel that dark chocolate helps scare off a cold. Yea, Yea, green tea, orange juice..blah blah....I am sticking with red wine, American Idol and Olympics. Surely that will heal me.

So far, I am 4 girls into Idol, and soooo not impressed...really?? BORING! Hope it gets better or I might have to read or something at night..eeekkk. Pretty sure Hailey Vaughn has a lisp. Weird...but she is unique. I LOVE ELLEN...just a side note

I have a slight identity crisis while watching the winter Olympics...part of me has the secret wish that I was Linsey Vonn, beautiful hair, spandex bod, fiercely gliding down that mountain to take the gold...then i hear those skis cutting over that ice at incredibly terrifying speeds, and at any minute they can have the skin ripped from every crevice of their body, and I never want to step foot on a mountain. i like my life....ok so I Guess green slopes aren't so bad...and puffy snow pants are ok too.

Jay is at class tonight...so ready for his classes to be over, clearly he is more ready to be done. Tuesdays and Thursdays are lonely.

Allison comes to visit this weekend and I am so excited to have her come and show off my new home. Now time to get cracking on the cleaning and planning

oh and its snowing in texas and we have no snow on the ground here..what happened?? not complaining, just wondering.

8 contestants in...still not impressed...

two wonderful days...

So I need to start out by saying, Jay has been gone for almost a week and I have missed him terribly. This is the longest we have been apart since I have moved here. I know, i know we did the long distance thing for over a year, but it is amazing how quickly you get used to having someone around and how much you miss them when they are gone. Man I knew I really dug this man, but good lord absence really does make the heart grow even fonder.

So that being said, I have off this week for school vacation, so I knew that I was going to have to find ways to keep myself entertained. I was left a honey do list when Jay left, and surprisingly I have completed all but one item (list something on ebay..blah). So I was thrilled when my sis in law Jan and Nell decided to head to Portland, ME and wanted me to meet them for a girls day. Portland is only about 1hr 45 min away and a very easy drive. Even in my rental car with no cruise control or xm radio, I made it there quickly and with no difficulties. Nell brought her adorable baby Lila (talk about a little one that makes a lady like me want to have babies immediately). She is the most relaxed and chill baby. Never complains (how does a baby complain exactly..i guess maybe she never really fusses) and has this smile that makes you want to just eat her face. We had a long wonderful lunch and then headed to shop. I would say shopping was a far second to really just walking around and talking. It has been almost a month since i have had some good girl time, and I realized that I need it more than once a month. I mean, Jay does a wonderful job of listening to me and giving appropriate responses, but sometimes there is just nothing better than hours of gossip, analysis and advice..and I think Jay will benefit greatly as well. I had my first experience with a shop called the Christmas Tree Shop (its a new england thing I think.) For my southern folks, it is kind of a combo of a garden ridge and a dollar tree. Utter greatness!
It was such a great day and could have only been made better by spending the night in portland and having a few bevs over a nice dinner...next time ladies...next time.

So today was the last day until Jay comes home. I decided to have one of those afternoon movie marathons..chick flicks of course. See all the terrible/wonderful movies that Jay will never see. I picked up a Chilean sandwich (greatness), and headed over to the theater at noon. First flick, When in Rome (not soo good...) Second...Dear John..typical Nicolas Sparks flick. Tears...lots of tears, but great. Just what i needed. And I will let you know..i left the theater without eating ANY POPCORN...i think that is a first...(pretty sure that isn't allowed on the lent diet). So I left the movies feeling great and decided to walk home instead of taking the T (subway). It was a beautiful day (beautiful for Feb in Boston I guess..like 30ish).

The walk from the theater is so beautiful...you walk though the boston gardens, by the ice skating rink, and down Newbury street (a huge shopping street). just fyi.. cheesy moment following.. I had one of those moments walking through the gardens and watching people playing with their dog, walking with their significant others, families, etc. I was listening to a really great song on my ipod, and I felt like i was in one of those musical scenes in a movie when the great song plays and the camera follows the leading lady walking down the street having a moment. I was just thinking in this part in my movie... the leading lady is looking around at where she is now. I am married...I am married to a wonderful man. I live in a spectacular city..and I have come so far. I live in a city I have always wanted to live in. I have done so many things that scare me, and I am still kickin. I can drive a standard..ok I realize that really doesn't fit...but that did cross my mind. I bought a family car and that cute family ice skating over there is going to be me in a few years. Of course I started tearing up..thank goodness for sunglasses. I just walked home on a cloud. The bums got change and the emergency sirens were just part of my city music (oh and lord and taylor got some money as well...had to stop in a check on the super sale of course) .
So, cheesy and all, I had a wonderful past two days...now time for Jay to get home so I can have a wonderful weekend.

40 long days

Well Lent is supposed to beging today, but it looks like mine will start tomorrow. I have been going back and forth trying to decide what I wanted to give up this year. It has been diet coke, fried foods and sweets in the past. those have all been very hard, yet very rewarding. This year, I want to keep diet coke, but think I might do sweets.

Other things that I possibly considered...
-tv only 3 nights a week- pure crazy-how would one keep up with the world...read??
-texting-absolutely not possible
-no wine during week-possible, just not preferable
-no playing on facebook at work-ummmm, what do you do when you are in a boring meeting???

I am also considering white foods (potato, white flour, regular pasta). That does not however include whole wheat bread and whole wheat pasta. Is that cheating?? Dr. Oz says we need to give up white foods anyway...so maybe that is just a good healthy decision. So clearly the only real options are sweets and white foods/white flour.

sooo...Let the games begin (tomorrow) :)

Stupid Maine Lady with a Dog

Sunday morning following a wonderful Sat at the Toboggan Nationals, I am following Jay and I get hit by a woman I am calling...Stupid Maine Lady with a Dog. So we are both waiting at a four way stop, and it is my turn to go. I am about half way through and SMLWAD decides it was her time to go...and she completely takes out the rear end of my car. Not sure what she was thinking, she says it was because of her dog, but after having a conversation with her, I realize it may just be her exceptionally low IQ that made her decide to start to go while I was still in the intersection. Now I was ok, but experiencing the car doing almost 2 complete 360 degree spins, I was needless to say, slightly shaken. SMLWAD got out of her car and wanted to try and just give me her info, because she was worried about her son missing his hockey game..really?? At that point if i was smarter I should have faked injury..but gosh darn it that honesty thing just always gets in the way. Anyway, Jay came right back and made it all better so I could sit in the car and cry. The car was drivable, after Jay and his dad did some serious body work, while I bonded with my new mother-in-law. We made the drive back to boston, and was able to take the car into the shop to get repaired on Monday. Apparently there is much more internal damage than we thought,...shocking, it seems to always work out that way.

After taking the car into get fixed, Jay and I decided that we wanted to start test driving new cars..because lets be honest...who wants to buy a bummed up car. (Oh guess I should add that our current car was a lease that we were trying to decide if we wanted to buy). So yea, after SMLWAD took out the option of buying, we decided to start the search. Well the search turned into a one day search and buy. We ended up getting walking away with a bunch of free cups of coffee, some terrible jokes by a super slick annoying car man and an Outback. Yes, that's right. We joined the rest of the east coast and bought a Subaru. A real rugged/family car. here is a pic of the showroom car. I am so excited and can't wait to join the 1 in 4 people up here driving one.

Ohh, and lots of room for car seats...i'm just sayin

Toboggan Nationals 2010

So the toboggan nationals 2010 has come and gone and I can honestly say it was as much if not more fun that I remembered. Sure it is 17 degrees at the warmest part of the day and I don't think i could feel my feet by 10am, but it really is just sheer enjoyment. It is a toss up as to which part I enjoy the most. Watching the ridiculous costumes or watching Jay and his buddies bond over beverages, breakfast sandwiches and brownie bites. Well their team didn't make it to the finals, which was too bad (or actually great because we didn't have to return the next day). I think next year they are going to try and rebuild the toboggan in an attempt to create a winning team Wax that Ash...Yes, that is the team name. (Ash is the wood that the toboggan is made from...not a weird reference to me, just in case you were wondering). So all in all it was a great weekend...(well until Sunday morning..see stupid Maine woman story) We got to visit with lots of family and friends, met some new people (well I did at least) ate great food and came home with all body parts attached and defrosted. Here are some pics from the weekend.
